This was the final Discussion session for the book “Crime and Punishment”. Due to the final exams of Classes of 2016 and 2017, only the book club members of 2018 and our guest member, SushantChitrakar, were present on the final session. The book was one of the most complex and psychological books we’ve read. It was written by Fyodor Dostoevsky. He is a Russian writer, so this book was based on Russian society of around 1865. Everyone was amazed at the writer’s ability to write such a story filled with suspense and nail biting twists.

During the last discussion for the book, everyone narrated a part of the novel from start to finish, and discussed the interesting events in the book. We discussed about the choices Raskolnikov makes before and after commiting the crime, which would prove he is a great person. His crime eventually gets the best of him, to the point that he starts having conversations with himself. We discussed how a psychologically disturbed person like Raskolnikov, falls in love with a woman like Sonya, and how he even confesses everything in the end, because of Sonya’s promise to follow him where ever he goes.

This discussion session marked the end of “Crime and Punishment”. The next book is yet to be decided, but the next book might be a love story, so interested people can join in as Guest members, for the next book.
